EDF Casting and Brace Design
Online Continuing Education
The infantile and early onset scoliosis populations pose some difficult and unique orthotic design challenges. Despite the refinement of shape-capture methods, material selection, and thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) designs, positive results are often difficult to obtain with an orthosis. Rapidly changing shape, small lever arms, developmental milestones, pear-shaped anatomy, and comorbidities far too often lead to noncompliance. In fact, those difficulties likely led many physicians to abandon orthotic treatment as an option for the infantile scoliosis population. EDF casting offered a promising new treatment option.
