Councils and Committees

The Academy has three councils under the direction of the Board of Directors to fulfill the Academy's mission of promoting professionalism and advancing the standards of patient care through education, literature, research, advocacy, and collaboration.

The Education Development Council (EDC) was established to guide and implement Academy continuing education offerings aimed to provide comprehensive education opportunities to O&P professionals. The EDC oversees all education initiatives of the Academy. The work is done through four committees: the Publications committee, the Online Education Committee, the Scientific Societies Committee and the Annual Meeting Clinical Content Committee.

The Membership Advocacy Council (MAC) focuses on enhancing the O&P practitioner by focusing on issues that affect patient care, such as reimbursement and government affairs, as well as elevating women, students, and residents within the profession. This council works on providing a solid foundation for Academy chapters and the Academy's relationship with special constituencies.
This committee aims to promote evidence-based practice within orthotics and prosthetics through knowledge translation deliverables. These deliverables will be based on the best available research evidence and presented in brief and understandable formats to facilitate clinical implementation.
