Each year, the Academy Annual Meeting Clinical Content Committee selects two abstracts to be presented as part of the Thranhardt Lecture Series, and each awardee receives a $500 honorarium. Thranhardt Lecture Series abstracts are also sent to the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics (JPO) Editorial Review Board for potential inclusion in a future issue of JPO and become courses on the Academy’s Paul E. Leimkuehler Online Learning Center.
The Thranhardt Lecture Series Award was established in 1995 with a gift from J.E. Hanger in memory of Howard R. Thranhardt, CP, and has since become one of the most distinguished honors in the orthotics and prosthetics profession. This award annually recognizes individuals committed to advancing clinical education and research in O&P.
This year, we also honor the legacy of H.E. “Ted” Thranhardt, CPO(E), who passed away in July. Ted was a pillar of the O&P profession, dedicating over 50 years to its growth and development. He served as president of all three major O&P organizations and led the Academy from 1976–1977.
The Thranhardt Lecture Series stands as a testament to the enduring influence of both Howard and Ted Thranhardt, celebrating their legacy of leadership, excellence, and commitment to advancing the field of orthotics and prosthetics.
