The Academy Presents: The Gait Analysis Unconference

Join us for a dynamic and collaborative experience unlike any other! The Academy is thrilled to host the Gait Analysis Unconference—a global virtual event where you shape the agenda, share insights, and spark meaningful discussions on the treatment of gait-related conditions. This isn’t your typical conference. The Unconference format puts participants in the driver’s seat, empowering you to:

• Submit topics that matter most to you.
• Vote on submissions to shape the final agenda
• Engage in discussions that inspire collaboration and innovation
  

Why Participate?

This is your chance to shape the conversation, expand your network, and help drive advancements in gait treatment. Whether you’re an orthotist, prosthetist, physical therapist, or passionate about improving gait care, your voice belongs here.

How it works

1. Submit Your Topics: Share your ideas and propose discussion topics that excite you. By submitting a topic, you are committing to share content on that topic, so be sure only to submit topics on which you will be able to present! 
2. Shape the Agenda: Once registration closes, participants will vote on submitted topics. The most popular ideas will set the stage for our discussions. A maximum of 10 topics will make it onto the final Academy Gait Unconference agenda.  
3. Be Ready to Lead: Participants are encouraged to contribute their voices—don’t worry, this is a space for sharing, not perfection. Cohort members will gain access to an exclusive private community board, where they can introduce themselves, share their experiences and perspectives on gait, and exchange thoughts and ideas in anticipation of the upcoming Unconference.

The Rules are Simple

1. Once you register, you must participate. All registrants are required to: 
   • Submit topics and be prepared to present on those topics.
   • Introduce yourself to those in your cohort via the Academy's Gait Analysis Unconference Academy Exchange Community Page.
   • Participate in the upvoting of topics that will determine the final agenda
2. Agree to the community guidelines. 
   
3. If your topic is selected, you will be asked to submit a summary of your presentation and findings to contribute to the Academy’s Gait Analysis Unconference Proceedings. 

Topics

Please look over the topics below and be ready to select the ones you feel are most relevant to gait and are prepared to speak about.  The Academy’s Gait Analysis Unconference cohort will be able to upvote the topics between April 1, 2025, and April 13, 2025. Up to 10 topics will make it onto the final agenda! 

1. Orthotic Edition - Is it an anatomical issue or an alignment/device issue?  
2. Prosthetic Edition - Is it an anatomical issue or an alignment/device issue?  
3. Basics of gait and gait training techniques (walking, running, uneven surfaces, safety, etc.) 
4. Multi-disciplinary approach to managing a specific gait deviation (i.e. toe walking, crouch gait, etc.) 
5. Quantifying outcomes (mobility outcome measures, integrating technology and AI for gait analysis). 
6. OTHER TOPICS OF INTEREST
