As a Clinical Professor and Director of the Orthotic and Prosthetic (O&P) Centers at the University of California, San Francisco, Matthew Garibaldi, MS, CPO, presides over 6 primary clinical locations including UCSF’s flagship campus (Parnassus Heights), the Orthopaedic Institute, Benioff Children’s Hospital, Oakland Children’s Hospital, Berkeley Outpatient Patient Care Center, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. His leadership has strongly focused on business strategy, vision development, clinical safety and innovation, educational development, research initiatives, and sustainability of the O&P Centers at UCSF. His research focuses on validation of prosthetic assessment tools, patient preference surveys for regulatory purposes, and quality of life outcomes research for experimental prosthetic technology. Following a twenty-five-year clinical career, Matthew has played a key role in developing the Osseointegration program at UCSF and is the first prosthetist in the United States to treat patients using the transfemoral percutaneous osseointegration OPRA implant system. In addition to his teaching, research, and clinical responsibilities, Matthew works at the executive level to expand Orthotic and Prosthetic care throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Matthew is the past president of the California Orthotic and Prosthetic Association, and currently serves on the board of directors for the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. He is the creator of the Orthotic and Prosthetic Innovative Technologies conference (known as OPTech), is the founding member of the Academy’s Hospital-Based O&P Practice Committee, and the Vice Chair of the Academy’s Bone-Anchored Society. Matthew Garibaldi resides in Hillsborough, California with his wife Brooke, and six children Gianna, Catherine, Maximilian, Lucas, Giorgio, and Benjamin.
